Happy Hour with YourGayHusband

YourGayHusband DRINK of the Day:
Port Antonio
Port Antonio
Cocktails Anyone!?
This is a RUM drink with a Caribbean flare. It is named after Port Antonio in the Caribbean Islands.
Here is how you make it ...
1/2 tsp grenadine
4-5 ice cubes
1 part fresh lime juice
3 parts white or golden rum
lime zest, to decorate
maraschino cherry, to decorate
Spoon the grenadine into a chilled cocktail glass. Put the ice cubes into a mixing glass. Pour the lime juice and rum over the ice and stir vigorously, then strain into the cocktail glass. Wrap the lime zest around the cherry, impale them on a toothpick and use them to decorate the drink.

I hope you enjoy the first of many Happy Hours with YourGayHusband.
Let me know how you like it and don't forget the nuts.

Green Living with Indoor Plants

YourGayHusband Tip of the Day:
Take care of your plants and they will take care of you
Winter care for Indoor Plants.
I don't know about you but I love being surrounded by plants. If I could live in a green house, I would. Back in the early 90's when Paula Abdul dominated the airwaves, I was working at a Nursery at the SF Flower Mart...and LOVING it. This is where I learned how to care for plants.

During the winter months it is important to cut back on the watering of your inside plants. I do 10 days to 2 weeks between watering during winter. This will vary on the plant. Just make sure it is dry before watering again. The plants will go into a dormant stage and NOT grow as much and maybe lose a few leaves. This is normal.

This is a perfect time to give your plants some attention before spring. Rinse your plants off completely by either putting the smaller plants in the shower or spraying the larger plants with a spray bottle.

Every so often you need to dust your plants. The plants with smaller leaves or cactus can be dusted with a feather duster. For your broad leaf plants, I recommend taking a damp cloth and wiping each leaf. If you see any brown edges, go ahead and trim this off with a sharp pair of scissors. At the nursery they would use a sharp straight edge razor. This made them look perfect.

Give back to your plants and they will provide not only a beautiful environment but they will help by providing Oxygen and keeping your house fresh.
Lets get to it.

Happy Valentines Day

YourGayHusbandTip of the Day:
Creativity Sparks Romance..so get Creative

Happy Valentines Day or what my friend Leslee calls it, Happy Single Awareness Day.
I love Valentines Day. I is also my Anniversary. Believe it or not w have been together for 23 years. Just not in the biblical since...not yet. One day we will be legal. Until then it is back to loving everyday.

Who said you can't say I Love You with food.
As part of my gift to MyGayHusaband, I made these yummy sugar cookies with icing.

I started with Pillsbury pre-made sugar cookie mix for $1.25. You just need to add butter and an egg. I started by making a stencil for the letters I was going to use, in this case...I LOVE YOU with some extra heart cookies. I logged into a Word document and typed in the letters I needed. I set the size at 450 and the font is Veranda BOLD. Use whatever font you like best. I printed them and cut them out. I used these as my stencils to cut out my cookie dough.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees and cook for 9- 11 minutes. Let cool for 30 minutes before frosting. For the frosting you will need 2 cups of confection sugar and 1-2 Tbsp milk with 1 tsp of vanilla and food coloring. Using a butter knife frost the cookies. Let the frosting set over night for best results.

COST - $3 for everything

TIME - 30 min not including cool time
Level of difficulty - 2 0n a scale of 1-5 [fool proof]

Get creative and have FUN. I made extra Hearts to give as gifts to friends and neighbors...they loved them.

This idea can be used for several occasions. Just make your design and go for it.

I hope you have a great Valentines Day !

Joyfull Reunion Part 2

YourGayHusband Tip of the Day:
Tenacity Pays off...eventually

Joyfull Reunion Part 2

One of my first blogs [Joyfull Reunion] I received an over whelming amount views asking whatever happened with your friend ANDRE. We ended up talking on the phone a couple of days later. We talked for over 2 hours and it was as if NO time at all had passed. We were both feeling the same about finding each other, which was exciting. He is truly my friend til the end. I found out where he lives how many kids etc... If you have a friend that you wish you could find. Be tenacious, keep searching and you will find them. Thank gawd for the Internet.
I hope this offers you inspiration with your own relationships. I know that since I spoke with Andre, I have connected with other longtime friends. I just heard from my Cousin, Darla. She is doing great. She owns her own salon called Darla &Co. I haven't heard from her since my dad died several years ago. My friend Peggy that I have known since I was 3 years old found me and now we are connected once again. Such a FEEL GOOD Moment. Just like old time friends....nothing is better than family. Find your friends before it is too late...if you know what I mean. Tick - Tock.

Surf and Turf Valentines Day Dinner

YourGayHusband Tip of the Day:
Wine and Dine your Valentine

Surf and Turf for your Valentine
This Valentines Day we will be dining at Home and enjoying a Surf and Turf Dinner.
We started with a Black and White Table setting, Green Flowers, Candles and a Martini in front of a Roaring fire with Jazz playing in the back ground. Now that romance is in the air...lets get down to the food. I served a 3 course meal and made sure there was plenty of time for googly eyes and sweet talk. When we sit down, we start the meal with a great glass of Red wine. The first coarse is a chopped salad with Asparagus soup, then another glass of wine and more googly eyes, then out comes the Steak and Lobster Tail with fresh sweet Corn and a Baked Potato for sides and Melted Butter for dipping the Lobster.

After another glass of wine and more googly eyes we move back in front of the roaring fire for Champagne and Dessert.

Take your time and enjoy every minute together with NO distractions. I think it is FUN to Dress Up for dinner.

It is now time to enjoy your
Pretty Pink Low Calorie Cake and a glass of Veuve Cliquot Ponsardin Champagne. This is our farovite Champagne. It is what Patsy and Edina would drink on "Absolutely Fabulous"

Now with a good buzz and lots of googly eyes it is time to exchange gifts. All I can say is make sure it is from the Heart. This is my "one of a Kind" Valentines Day Card.
Enjoy your evening together. Now that the fire is out ..what to do... I will leave it to your imagination. Love the one you're with...I know I do.

A candle lit Bath is a great accompaniment with your Romantic Dinner.
The best advise I have is to remove any distractions, be prepared and keep the conversation focused on each other. You deserve it.
The steak is a Ribeye from Tom Thumb for $4.99lb
Lobster is from Sunflower Market $4.99ea 4oz
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!
