"Live Green" with Fresh Flowers

Your Gay Husband Tip of the Day :
Decorate with FRESH Flowers
Gerbera Daisys
Fresh Flowers for Less
I love fresh Flowers around the house. When I plan my weekly shopping I always checkout prices for fresh Flowers. If you don't buy them on promotion they can be very expensive. I only spent $4.99 on these Gerbera Daisy's. They are one of my favorites.
BIG impact with BIG savings.

Gerbera Daisy in Bud Vases with Tea Lights
Here I used the Gerberas in 5 Bud Vases with tea light candles between them. This makes for a great centerpiece inside or out. I used these on my outside patio for a romantic dinner.

Gerbera in a Single Vase
It is nice to keep fresh Flowers next to your bed on a night stand or in the bathroom. This just took 1 flower and adds tons of impact to any space. I recommend collecting vases, especially bud vases of every color a size. This will allow you to maximize your looks.

Gerbera in Large Vase
These are the same flowers just with a totally different look. I used all of them in 1 large vase. I usually don't care for pink flowers but these were such a beautiful tone that I couldn't resist.

Add beauty to your surroundings for only $4.99. Yep I only spent $4.99 for these looks. I bought them at the grocery store believe I or not. When picking Gerberas make sure the center is tight and just starting to bloom. Change water every 3 days and should last for 10 days or so.

Enjoy adding beauty to your home by adding FRESH FLOWERS.

DIY: Beverage Fridge Make Over

Your Gay Husband Tip of the Day:
"Re New" before you "Buy New" and SAVE

Finished Project
From Drab to Fab
We have this old beverage fridge on our patio. It was being tossed out so we took it. It has been a great fridge and perfect for that cool beverage when you are out by the pool. Most of the Patio is Black and White with some Lemongrass and Sand accents. The fridge was dated to say the least so I decided to give it a face lift and paint it Black. It looks NEW...Really !
COST - $15
Time - 1 hour not including dry time
Level of Difficulty - 2 on scale of 1-5
Rustoleum Epoxy Appliance Paint
To get started I made sure to clean fridge thoroughly and lightly sanded any rough areas. Once it is clean, tape off the areas that you don't want painted such as fixtures or handles. You don't want it to loo like you poured paint over it. I used RustOleum Primer [I use the left overs form my "frame" project and Epoxy Spray Paint that is made for appliances. I love this paint. You can by these at Home Depot.

Primer Coat

Make sure to apply 2 coats of primer. This is key for ensuring adherence of the Epoxy Paint. Follow directions for dry times. I used a gray base primer that is made for dark tones. Take your time and don't miss a spot.

First Coat Epoxy Paint
When painting make sure that you are in a well ventilated area. I use a mask and goggles. Better be safe than sorry. After you apply the first coat of the Epoxy Spray Paint it will look splotchy. It will look splotching for the first 2 coats. I recommend applying 3-4 coats for best results. It feels and cleans just like a NEW fridge.

Finished Beverage Fridge
This was a Fun project. I only needed a little help with moving the fridge to an open space for painting. It makes such a BIG difference. It's funny how you can get used to something if you live with it everyday, so why not add a bit of newness to your environment without spending the Big Bucks.

I hope this inspires you to make something of yours go from Drab to Fab.

BBQ Chicken Breast...Low and Slow

Your Gay Husband Tip of the Day:
Marinate overnight for best results

BBQ Chicken with Carrots, Broccoli and Ambrosia Salad
 BBQ Chicken Breasts
mmm that sounds so good. When you BBQ chicken "right" it is juicy and full of flavor. The key is to marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight when time permits, and to cook it Low and Slow. I use a dry rub but really use what you like best. Here is how I made these large chicken breast and boy oh boy were they GOOD.

TIME - 2 hours excluding marinating
COST - under $10 for 4 servings
Level of difficulty-2 on a scale of 1-5
Cook away from coals Low and Slow
Once the Chicken has marinated put it on the grill. You want your grates on the grill to be hot and coals to be gray in color. Place the Chicken breasts on the grill away from the coals. Close the lid and close the vents 90% of the way. This will help keep the BBQ warm, smoke the meat and level out the cooking temperature. Do NOT even look at it for 1hour. If you want you can also toss in some wet wood chips. I only use organic charcoal and NO lighter fluid.

Happy Chicken Breast are done
Once the internal has reached 155 degrees I remove the chicken from the grill and tent it in foil for 10-15 min before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute and make for a JUICY breasts and let it finish cooking. You do not want dry chicken...yuck. I do not put BBQ sauce on the chicken until it hits the plate.
I made caramelized carrots, steamed broccoli and Ambrosia salad to go with it.

Lemon Mint Vodka Cocktail
The perfect accompaniment is an ice cold
Lemon Mint Vodka Cocktail. click for recipe

Let me know if you have any questions or need any advise on BBQing. I love to cook...so have some friends over and enjoy your BBQ chicken over drinks and laughs. That is a perfect world to me.

Fashion Friday: My Fashionista's

YourGayHusband FASHION Tip of the Day:
Look to the past to Update fashion today

Lena Horne
My Fashionista's:
Recently I took a few extra days off after a very busy work period and decided that I need to do nothing but rest my tired feet and body. While resting I was able to watch a few of my favorite shows and discovered a new favorite.Something that I noticed while watching my favorite shows, many of my favorite female entertainers were featured or topics of discussion.
Lena Horne, one of the first African-American female entertainers had pasted away at the age of 92 in Manhattan.
Lena was the first African-American Female actress to sign a long term contract with a major Hollywood studio and then went on to achieve international fame as a singer and activist.
I really didn't know much about about her, but remember 2 songs particularly( Moon River, The Man I Love) being sung by mother while going up.

Aretha Franklin
While watching one of my new Favorite shows, Wendy Williams, I was thrilled that she had an exclusive interview with the one and only Aretha Franklin. I can remember many happy times dancing around in our living room to her hits being played on the radio. I would have to say that the "Queen of Soul looked good event though she recently has been battling illness. She was witty, charming, honesty and had a sense of humor while expressing her thoughts during the interview.
Of course I will be saving my itune dollars to upload her new CD, Aretha's Best, which was released March 7, 2011.

Vanessa Williams
Halle Berry
Vanessa Williams recently was on Wendy Williams and let me tell you, she is FIERCE!!! Her body is rockin, skin flawless, and hair amazing.
Her resume as a entertainer I find so interesting. Her career beginning as a model, then she became Miss USA, the controversy over her pictorial in Penthouse, then a  new direction as actress  in film, TV and Broadway. I remember seeing her on Broadway in "Kiss of a Spider Woman".What a compliment, to replace Chita Rivera, in a lead role on Broadway.
Her performance was spectacular.

Halle Berry recently was on the Oscars Red Carpet and each time I see her, I am amazed how this woman glows and radiates femininity and beauty. She has made her mark in Hollywood as one of the best African-American actresses to date. Her starlet life has been exposed, but yet remains victorious and she continues to transform and recreate herself.
Halle's career began at the age of 17, when she won the Miss Teen all American title and  from then on she has added 43 film titles to her resume, photographed for numerous print ads, and is also a spokes model for Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipstick. Her life today continues to evolve, recently becoming a mother of a baby girl, Nah

Wendy Williams
My new favorite,Wendy Williams talk show. She bills herself as "the Queen of all Media", starting off as a radio personality for numerous stations around the country. Now that Oprah is moving on to new pastures, she is opening up the world of daytime TV and I cant wait to see what she will make of it.Stay tuned...she will be the spotlight of many more thing to come.  She may even surprise us and WIN Dancing with the Starz. How you dancin ? is her new Question  on her talk show.

Here are last weeks POLL results :
Who was your favorite at the Oscars...
Anne Hathaway - 66%
Mila Kunis - 16%
Jennifer Hudson - 16%

OMG Carrot Cake
OMG Carrot Cake
The other day I just had this overwhelming need for Carrot Cake. MyGaySister is a pastry chef, she gave me this recipe and all I have to say is OMG !

COST - $5 including frosting
Time - 1 hour
Level of Difficulty 2 on a scale of 1-5

Here is how it is made...
Baking 3 Layers
In a large bowl combine...
2 cups of sugar
2 cups of sifted flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
Add...
1 1/2 cups oil
4 eggs
3 cups grated carrots
Mix till combined. You can add 1 cup of 1 or all of the following...drained crushed pineapple, coconut, nuts.
put into greased 8"or 9" pans and bake 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove and let cool completely before frosting. Do not rush it.

To Die For Cream Cheese Frosting
This frosting is a MUST for this cake. DO NOT VARY.
1 8oz package cream cheese
1 cube of soften butter
1 box powdered sugar sifted
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts [optional] for garnish
Cream butter and cream cheese, add vanilla and powdered sugar, mix til combined. Grab a spoon...it is good.

Frosting your cake
Put a small amount of frosting between each layer and use the rest for the top and sides. I dollop a large amount to the center of the cake and work it down around the edges until it is completely frosted. Make sure to use ALL of the frosting. Take your time and feel the rhythm of the frosting. This will prevent tears and clumps.

with Vanilla Ice Cream
What could be easier. Add a scoop or two of Vanilla ice cream and have a moment to yourself. A nice glass of ice cold milk is a perfect combination.

I hope you enjoy this as much as we did.
