My Mom came out to visit for the last 3 weeks. We really had a good time catching up. She brought old family photos and we shared recipes. My mom is going to be 72 years old this year and you would never know it. She has a zest for life and her curiosity keeps her well connected with young people. She volunteers at a Theatre and stays active by long nature walks with her baby girl Lola. Lola is her tea cup chihuahua. Mom takes Lola everywhere with her, she is my moms service dog. Lola is a great stress reliever for her and loves her unconditionally. Isn't that the best part about having pets.

I consider myself fortunate to have spent such quality time with my mother. She served as an inspiration to both myself as well as my GayHusband. Mom and I would go to the gym, shopping, cooked, took walks with the dogs and laughed and laughed. My mom has three kids and we are ALL Gay. Mom sees this as a blessing, not a curse. She is a great example of living the life you want and that you can still be independent and full of life at 72. We should all be so lucky.

111 phenomenon

So I was talking with MyGayHusabnd the other night and he was sharing something interesting with me. You know how it is a 1 year. There are several dates throughout the year that have numerous ones in them such as 1-1-11, 1-11-11, 11-1-11 and so on...

OK so hear is the deal.

Take the last 2 digits of your birth year ex: 67 is for 1967

Take the age you will turn this year ex: 44

Add those two numbers together and it equals 111. It is this way for everyone.

After searching through this weeks bargains I noticed that there are alot of "promotional items" out there because the Super Bowl is coming. Some of the promotions are great deals and other just have really good advertising.

Ear cleaning for your pet

How do you say I Love you to your pets. Here is one way to keep your pets healthy and strong.
We have three dogs in our household. They are all different and from the SPCA or rescue dogs. I take them on walks to the Lake several times per week. Due to our outside adventures, it is very important to give head to toe inspections on a regular basis. Now is a good time to take a look at your dogs ears and check to see how clean they are or if the have a dirty scent. To keep my dogs ears clean, I use Earoxide pet ear cleaner. It is easy to use, just follow the directions on the back label. You will need a couple of pieces of tissue and a few cutips to remove any dirt. This will disolve dirt and wax and works in minutes and painless. I have two dogs that are smaller and they seem to need their ears cleaned more often. I think it is because they are closer to the ground but really, I'm not sure why.

You can pick up Earoxide at Petco. I paid $6.49. Caring for your pet is great way to say I LOVE YOU !

Produce for LESS

Here is a perfect example of getting More for Less. This is my produce for the week. I bought it at http://sunflower.com. I spent less than $8 for everything you see...

green onions, red lettuce, green leaf lettuce, tomatoes, celery, radishes, 2 kinds of squash, iceberg lettuce, 2 bags of carrots and a bell pepper. Read your ads and set your plan of attack when it comes to getting more for your money, especially on fresh produce. I hope you find this inspiring and helpful. Sunday Pot Roast dinner and 4 leftover ideas

It's raining, it's pouring the old man is snoring and dreaming about a pot roast. Time to wake up and make it... here is what I do..I hope you like it.

Take a roast 3-4lbs and season with salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder to taste and sear in a HOT pan that has 2 tbsp of oil in it. Brown all sides and remove from pan.

Put browned roast in a crock pot and turn on low for 8-10 hours

cut veggies and surround and cover roast [I usually use carrots, onions, celery and potato, 4each cut into quarters]

sprinkle one package of Lipton onion soup mix on top

pour in 1 can of beef broth, cover and go about you day, dinner will be ready in 8-10 hours

This is such a warm and fuzzy meal. It is great served with rolls and a salad.

Now with the left overs.....

I will use the extra meat and veggies for...

Burritos

just add fresh veggies like tomato, avacado, lettuce etc... and rice and roll into a steamed flour tortilla. Serve with some chips and salsa.

BBQ Beef sandwiches

in a small pan heat up some of the beef and onions and stir in 1/2 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce, top with cheese on some sourdough bread. *needs lots of napkins. Great with carrot and celery sticks.

Quesadias

heat up some extra meat add to a flour tortilla with jack/cheddar cheeses fold in half. To serve cut into 4 pieces and top with salsa, sour cream and guacamole.

Frittata

The veggies work great in a frittata with some bacon. [refer to Frittata blog for "how to"]

I hope you enjoy your Pot Roast as much as I am going to enjoy it. I will be watching the Golden Globes tonight and what a great meal to indulge in while watch who is wearing what.

Easy Gaucamole

Easy Guacamole

I don't know about you but I love guacamole. It is the perfect snack with chips or great on any Mexican dish. Here is how I made it.

start with...

3 med size avocados

2 key limes or 1 lime

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 c diced onion

2 tbsp cilantro

*if you like it hotter you can also add ...1 diced jalapeno, a few dashes of you favorite hot sauce or 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper. One other option is adding 1/4 c diced tomato.

Cut avocados in half and remove the seed then spoon out into a medium size bowl. Add the diced onions, salt and lime juice then smash with a fork.

The consistency is completely up to you, I like mine chunky.

*The lime juice is important to add so it won't turn brown. If you don't like lime juice you can substitute lemon or put the seeds in the bowl with the guacamole and remove before serving.
